Major Types of Nylon Fabric:
Nylon is a strong synthetic durable fabric used in caps/hats, jackets, bags, outdoor flags, etc. A few things you need to keep in mind while embroidering on nylon.
There are various types of nylon that are commonly found in fabrics. But, most importantly, there are two major types:
- Sport nylon
- Ripstop nylon
Sport nylon has a heavier weight than some other types of nylon which is easy to care for. In addition, this type of fabric can be easy to wipe, cleaned, or machine washed.
Ripstop nylon is lighter than sport nylon. As a result, it has a silkier texture. This type of fabric is woven with some heavier threads to help prevent ripping or tearing.
Both sport and ripstop nylon is used to make hats or caps. Both types of nylon come in various colors.
Step by Step Procedure to Embroider Nylon Hats:
Materials required:
- Nylon hats
- Hoop
- Cutaway Embroidery stabilizer
- Temporary spray adhesive
- Embroidery machine
Follow the procedure below to make custom embroidery designs on nylon caps/hats.
Step 1:
After spraying the medium-weight cutaway stabilizer with temporary spray adhesive, smooth the nylon fabric on top. Make sure it’s nice and flat with no wrinkles. You can also add double stick tape to the bottom side of the top portion of the hoop. This tape keeps the fabric from pulling away from the sides of the hoop.
Step 2:
Hoop the nylon fabric and stabilizer together and tighten with the hand screw.
Step 3:
Then embroider the design using a size 75/11 sharp sewing needle. This type of needle works great when embroidering on sturdy fabrics like nylon. The designs have light to medium complexity. Most importantly, it is not recommended to design heavier complex designs on nylon as these types of designs tend to pull more on the fabric during embroidery. As a result, it causes the nylon to pucker.
Step 4:
After you finish the design process, trim away the stabilizer on the backside of the embroidery.
Step 5:
Peel away the tape from the top hoop. You can easily remove small bits of tape with a damp sponge.
Conclusion:
You can use embroidery on nylon on backpacks, jackets, shirts, hats or caps, etc.
